When most people think of Botox, they think of fixing wrinkles. But did you know that many people in their 20s— who don’t usually have many, or even any, wrinkles— get Botox? The reason is that Botox is actually an excellent treatment for wrinkle prevention.
What is Preventative Botox?
Botox is a safe, time-tested treatment that can treat or prevent wrinkles by freezing targeted muscles in the face. Many wrinkles are caused not only by age, but by how we move our face. These are called dynamic wrinkles, and they’re among the easiest to avoid, thanks to Botox.
Botox can help prevent wrinkles from forming, simply by helping patients move their face less. And getting preventative Botox is as simple as getting any other kind of Botox treatment.
What to Expect at The Consultation
At a preventative Botox consultation, your doctor will examine your face, looking for wrinkles that may already exist, but also looking for where wrinkles might soon pop up. Then, they will decide where Botox would be most helpful for prevention. And usually, younger patients require far less injections than older patients.
Plus, though most Botox patients are older, there are absolutely no unique risks for getting Botox at a younger age. It’s an excellent, safe way to fight the signs of aging— before they even show up.
How Long Does the Treatment Take?
Preventative Botox is also a fast, simple treatment. It only takes around ten minutes and requires absolutely no downtime after the treatment. Like all Botox injections, it does take a little time to see results. It can take around two weeks for the full results of a preventative Botox treatment to be seen.
Botox is an excellent preventative treatment, and can work in combination with Fillers to further prevent the signs of aging for the rest of the face. For example, fillers (such as Juvederm) will help maintain volume in the temples, cheeks, lips, and smile lines around the mouth. However, the strategy for using fillers preventatively is different than using them to treat deeper lines and wrinkles. Preventative fillers require much less product, and injection technique is key to prevent unnatural results.
