That’s the current slogan for CoolSculpting by Zeltiq, the popular non-surgical body contouring procedure that has proven to eliminate stubborn fat from almost anywhere on your body. By now most people have heard of CoolSculpting through their friends, co-workers, or on television, but in case you haven’t here’s a quick run-down:
CoolSculpting’s unique technology uses controlled cooling to freeze and eliminate unwanted fat cells without surgery or downtime. The procedure is FDA-cleared for fat reduction of the belly (abdomen), love handles (flanks, muffin tops), inner thighs, and outer thighs (saddlebags). It has been proven to be safe and effective. The results are noticeable and long lasting.
The CoolSculpting procedure was discovered by Harvard scientists, using the science of Cryolipolysis to selectively freeze fat cells away while leaving the surrounding skin and tissues unharmed. The treatment was approved by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) in 2010. With the cosmetic industry constantly evolving and improving upon itself, it is very common for new machines and procedures to take the place of those once thought to be the best. The next best thing is always just around the corner. Zeltiq, the manufacturer of the CoolSculpting device, simply continues to improve upon their original design, making fat freezing the best and most consistent treatment for fat reduction.
So, what happens to the fat cells once they are frozen?
The treated fat cells are crystallized (frozen), then die. Over time, your body naturally processes the fat and eliminates these dead cells, leaving a more sculpted you.
How has the CoolSculpting procedure advanced over the years?
The process of freezing the fat has progressed to involve different areas of the body, and different amounts of fat. There are currently five different sized applicators available which can freeze the fat. Four of these are suction based applicators: Cool Core, Cool Curve, Cool Fit, and Cool Max. These applicator devices are used to treat areas of the body such as the Abdomen, Love Handles, Inner Thighs, Bra/Back fat, and Arms. The newest CoolSculpting applicator which was released in 2014 is called the Cool Smooth. This is the first non-suction based CoolSculpting applicator and is intended for use in areas where the fat is not readily pulled away from the body. We call this non-pinchable fat. The flat surface of the Cool Smooth applicator makes it ideal for treating the outer thighs. This solidifies CoolSculpting as a breakthrough treatment for the many people who struggle with those “saddle bags” that they just can’t get rid of with diet or exercise.
There continue to be several studies and concepts in development to further optimize the CoolSculpting procedure. With a shift in the field of cosmetics towards more non-surgical procedures, we expect that CoolSculpting will easily become more popular than the more invasive options such as Liposuction.
